We are often asked " what great motorcycle roads do you recommend"? Here is a list of some of the more famous "motorcycle roads", in the United States, that every rider should experience. We have grouped them together by area to make it easier to plan a tour.
Beartooth Highway in Montana - U.S. Highway 212 connects Red Lodge and Cooke City, Montana This twistie route cuts through the Custer National Forest and Shoshone National Forest, offering some of the most beautiful vistas on the planet. Perhaps the best part of Beartooth Highway is that when you're done riding its challenging roads, it will lead you right to the northeast gateway of Yellowstone National Park.
Going-To-The-Sun Road in Montana - Located in Glacier National Park it features tight switchbacks and high elevations with spectacular views.
Lolo Pass - US Route 12, This 5,233-foot mountain pass 40 miles outside of Missoula, Montana at the juncture of Idaho and Montana features striking views of rivers, rolling forests, and a historical background that goes back to the era of the Lewis and Clark Expedition
The Million Dollar Highway, US Route 550 - Runs between Ouray and Durango Colorado
Pacific Coast Highway, California Route 1 runs from Southern California's Orange County to Northern California's Mendocino County, but its most famous stretch is the Big Sur section between San Simeon and Carmel. This coastline-hugging highway is one of the most beautiful, scenic rides in the U.S.
California Route 36 - Considered by some to be among the best roads in California, California Route 36 links Interstates 5 and Hwy101 between Red Bluff and Fortuna with 140 miles of long, flowing twisties that are seemingly tailor made for motorcycles. And if that's not enough, you can even follow it east of I-5 to Lassen Volcanic National Park
Texas Hill Country - The Three Sisters (aka The Twisted Sisters). RR 335,336 & 337
Arkansas Scenic 7 - Travels North/South through the state, but the best part is between Harrison and Hot Springs. Beautiful scenery with lots of twisties through the rugged Ozark Mountains. See canyons, lakes, rivers, and forests.
Arkansas Pig Trail - Arkansas 23 This road runs through the rugged and forested Boston Mountains region of the Ozark Mountains. You'll ride through tunnels of trees, between valleys, beside streams to mountain switchbacks and hairpin turns.
Skyline Drive begins in Front Royal, VA which is about 80 miles west of Washington DC. Just hop on Skyline drive and take it south all the way through the Shenandoah National Park ... the end point is basically the town of Waynesboro, VA.
Shenandoah mountains, route 250. Both scenic and twisty, good road condition. Head west on Rt. 250 from Skyline Drive. It goes through the Shenandoah mountains and the Allegheny mountains, twisting and turning up and down the mountains all the way.
US Route 33 Harrisonburg, Virginia to Seneca Rocks, West Virginia. This 65-mile stretch of highway runs through the Shenandoah Valley between Virginia and West Virginia, offering beautiful mountain passes and challenging turns.
Blue Ridge Parkway The Blue Ridge Parkway, follows a winding path from Afton, Virginia down to Cherokee, North Carolina, through the majestic Blue Ridge mountains. This is the most visited attraction in the U.S. National Park System thanks to its meandering path that traverses some of the most breathtaking views in the country.
Deals Gap - US Route 129, The Tail of the Dragon can be found between Tallahassee, TN and Tapoco, NC. Though only 11 miles long, its 318 tight turns offer seemingly endless entertainment for all motorcyclists, It's better than a carnival ride and worth checking out if you are riding in the area of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Cherahola Skyway - The Cherohala Skyway starts in Robbinsville and rambles through North Carolina's mountainous regions, spilling into Tennessee's forested regions before ending at Tellico Plains, TN.
The Snake Hwy 421 - Shady Valley, TN Bristol to Mountain City
Natchez Trace Parkway Natchez Mississippi to Nashville Tennessee Not your typical twisty motorcycle road, this has great scenery and a relaxed pace. Considered a National Scenic Byway for its cultural, historic, and visually appealing qualities, the Natchez Trace Parkway is one of the longest stretches of great road that can be appreciated from a motorcycle.
