Touring Information

When people think of the beautiful state of Vermont, they often think of classic old villages, towering church steeples, rickety old general stores, old covered bridges, and leafy country lanes. Vermont brings to mind sugan maples and the beautiful fall colors. Vermont, and much of northern New England as well, has an abundance of roads with the winding, rural, up-and-down allure that motorcycles are designed to navigate. The pastoral scenery of Vermont, its open farmland rising into switchbacks through high-mountain passes, it provides a touring setting as visually satisfying as it is challenging.  Best time to tour Vermont is June - October.

BEST RIDES IN THE STATE

VT-100 - Runs North / South the length of the state, from the Massachusetts State Line to Canada . It's Vermont’s “must-do” road for motorcyclists. The 216-mile stretch is synonymous with idyllic New England settings of towns, farms, and ‘billboard free’ roads.  One Hundred is scenic, has a lots of curves, sweepers, and straights that provide excitement, and offers good roadside views. But VT-100’s strength is also its greatest weakness. Because it offers so much, the road draws a high volume of car traffic, especially on summer weekends and during the fall foliage season.

Lake Champlain Islands on US Rt. 2   Route 2 starts in Alburg, VT. At the Rouses point(N.Y. VT.) bridge which can be found in the north western part of the state of VT one mile from the Canadian border. Simply take Route 2 south from Alburg down to Burlington, VT.

App Gap, RT 17 - Between Waitsfield and Addison.  You'll get some tight twisty mountian roads with elevation changes and the midsection is rolling hills with sweeping corners. The App-Gap is a very technical ride with 53 turns of the tight radius, hair pin and decreasing radius variety. The scenery is unspoiled and the view from the parking lot at the top is breathtaking.

Smugglers Notch  Located in Northern Vermont, Rt. 108 between Jeffersonville & Stowe

Middlebury Gap  Located in Central Vermont  Rt. 125 between Hancock & Middlebury

Connecticut River National Byway   Runs the length of Vermont, it's a two-state byway spanning the east and west shores of the Connecticut River in both Vermont and New Hampshire

Molly Stark Byway   Located in Southern Vermont , Rt. 9 from Brattleboro to Bennington. This roadway runs through terrain ranging from low elevation valleys to hilly and mountainous regions. Spectacular views are available, especially at Hogback Mountain Scenic Lookout that faces south over Southern VT and into the Berkshires of MA.
