TOURING DEPOT NEWSLETTER FOR OCTOBER 2008
I have had a busy September finding new products, just about every section has something new. I've added products to cleaning supplies, gifts, books, travel accessories, and rider gear. I have been adding new links, there are new sections for Harley Davidson Information and Multimedia including on-line motorcycle magazines. Under the Touring Information Section check out a new link called "A Long Ride". This is one mans journal with great pictures of his travels. I found it very interesting. Check it out at www.touringdepot.com/links.html
I have also entered into the world of myspace. I'm still learning how it all works, but you can check out our page at www.myspace.com/touringdepot If you're a myspace user send us a friend request. I'm working on getting some pictures from our tour onto the myspace site.
PLANNING: Fall is here! If you live in the north take a ride this weekend to enjoy the changing of the seasons. I have added a new article on Skyline Drive. This is a beautiful scenic 105 mile road running throught the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. This is a beautiful ride to see the fall colors. If you live in the south, the fall bike rallys are starting up. Make a plan to head to Myrtle Beach or Daytona and enjoy the beaches.
PRODUCTS: We have added Riding Boots for men and women. Lots of styles by great makers such as Harley Davidson, Milwaukee, Red Wing, Ariat, Frye, Dr. Martens and more. Check them out under Riding Gear. We also have new sections for cold weather gear for men and women. You will find under armour and more, look in the Rider Gear section on the website. New Mens Leather Jackets Have Been Added HL-225 and HL-213 are dark brown leather. In black lather, the new mens jackets are HL-213,HL-221, HL-218, HL-210. In Travel Accessories I have added rain gators, a heated vest and a cooling vest. I know we are getting past the need for a cooling vest in fall, but $49.95 is a great price. We bought cooling vests this summer and paid $65 for each one. If you ride in the heat of summer, consider buying one at this low price and putting it away for the summer. Check it out at www.touringdepot.com/accessories.html It's not to early to start thinking about Christmas.
New Books Added: In the touring section, check out Planet Earths Greatest MC Adventures:There’s something about motorcycles, and the lure of freedom and the open road that they promise. Whether you're planning your first trip or seeking a new destination to add to your previous journeys, this book will inspire you. With routes taking in the very best of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and South America, there really is a trip here for every rider. Accompanied by stunning photography from around the globe, the journeys described here are perfect for everyone, whatever the level of expertise on the bike. Each trip covered includes a map showing your route and points of interest along the way.
New in Adventure Travel Books: The Old Man & The Harley: In The Old Man and the Harley, author John J. Newkirk retraces this epic odyssey with his aging father. Along the way, they discover the healing power of the road, the faith and strength of the American people, and the inspiration to face some of today's most pressing challenges.
The Road Gets Better From Here: With virtually no experience and absolutely no support, Adrian rides a basic stock motorbike 20,000kms across nine countries in three months to fulfill a lifelong dream. At every turn, Adrian is adopted by a vast array of characters, each with stories to tell and who, extraordinarily, expect nothing in return; tough Siberian truck drivers, frontier road workers, border guards desperate villagers, drug-addled soldiers and crazy modern-day traders, each insisting that he join them in their homes to share their lives and most of their provisions. It is these encounters which provide such a rich and compelling subtext to his extraordinary journey.
To Dakar & Back: Recounting the three weeks of blood, sweat, and tears that make up a 7,000 mile journey from the glitzy streets of Paris to the hinterland of northwestern Africa, this incredible tale highlights the most arduous and notorious off-road motorsports event on the planet, the Paris-Dakar Rally. Fully detailing what is considered by many to be one of the world's top five adventures, this book reveals amazing true tales of danger, from blinding sandstorms to endless vistas of towering dunes. Enduring these incredible hardships with perseverance, tenacity, ingenuity, and sometimes tragedy, the adventurers profiled here truly embody the triumphs of the human spirit.
Chasing Dakar: Chasing Dakar is the ultimate guide for motorcycle off-road enthusiasts everywhere who are searching for the extreme adventure riding experience.
Biker Humor & Lifestyle Books: Longrider - Take a BMW motorcycle, over a million miles, and you get an insightful compassionate (and passionate) view of America and what it means to all of us who are just passin' "through."
