TOURING DEPOT NEWSLETTER FOR JUNE 2011
PLANNING:
After a long winter it is important to ensure that bikes and their riders are ready for the open road. A well maintained bike is a safe bike.
Healthy tires are essential for road safety. After a bike has been sitting for a long period of time, visual inspection of the tires is required. Check the air pressure as well as the tread. Examine the grooves and sidewalls. Small cracks in the sidewalls are often a sign of dry rot. To ensure the safety of the rider and of other road users the tires should be changed if in doubt.
Brakes also need to be inspected. Riding is fun but stopping is important! Check the brake pads for wear as well as the rotors. Check for scoring and warping. Warped or scored rotors can damage the calipers and endanger lives. If in any doubt change the brake components.
Don't get in an accident as a result of brake failure or bad tires. Take some time to check out your bike before hitting the road this summer.
